New record: Solar power in state peaks at 6,561 MW | Chennai News

Chennai: Solar power generation in Tamil Nadu reached a new high on Tuesday. Peak generation was recorded at 6,561MW and 48.20 million units of power was injected into the grid, setting a record for both peak generation and overall absorption.
Tangedco officials attributed the increase in solar power generation to the clear, sunny and bright sky across the state, as well as the increased installed capacity of solar power.
Earlier, the peak was 6,401MW, and the maximum per-day generation was 45.90 million units — both recorded on Sept 15, 2024.
According to the energy dept’s policy note for 2024, Tamil Nadu had an installed capacity of 8,000MW of solar power in June 2024. The installation increased to 9,414MW and more installations are underway.
