CALHOUN COUNTY, MI – Site work has begun on Consumers Energy’s second large-scale Michigan solar project, which officials say will generate power for thousands of residents once completed.
Jackson-based Consumers Energy and Hecate Energy, headquartered in Chicago, announced Wednesday initial work has begun on the 360-megawatt “Sunfish Solar 2” project, to be constructed in Lee Township in northern Calhoun County.
The project will be handled by Bechtel, a Virginia-based global construction company, with a target completion date the second quarter of 2026, Consumers Energy officials said in a news release.
The solar farm is set to be capable of supplying enough energy to power about 69,000 Michigan homes, officials said.
Sunfish Solar 2 follows the Muskegon Solar Energy Center that began construction in 2024, officials said.
