A project’s viability shouldn’t hinge on bureaucratic delays.”
The permitting backlog poses existential challenges for the exploration industry, said Jutla, a lawyer with a decade of experience in the resources sector. And it’s unclear whether the recently re-elected New Democratic Party (NDP), led by Premier David Eby, will bring the changes needed to turn the tide. The party secured a slim majority in the Oct. 19 election, winning 47 out of 93 seats in the Legislative Assembly.
