CEO Javier Fernandez made the announcement during Tuesday’s Board of Directors meeting.”It provides a very much needed diversification of our energy portfolio,” Fernandez said.The expected 300 megawatts of wind energy is enough to power 115,000 homes, according to OPPD. The purchase will help the utility become more reliable. An OPPD official Monday commented on the beating the utility has taken from Mother Nature this year.Wind power proved its worth earlier this year during January’s winter storm.
