OPPD announces Milligan I Wind Project deal to help meet growing energy demand

OPPD officials addressed the increasing demand for power. The Board of Directors announced Tuesday that it’s buying a facility to bring more power to the area. CEO Javier Fernandez made the announcement during Tuesday’s Board of Directors meeting.”It provides a very much needed diversification of our energy portfolio,” Fernandez said.The expected 300 megawatts of wind energy is enough to power 115,000 homes, according to OPPD. The purchase will help the utility become more reliable. An OPPD official Monday commented on the beating the utility has taken from Mother Nature this year.Wind power proved its worth earlier this year during January’s winter storm. Freezing conditions staggered equipment along the Missouri River, while wind power picked up the slack.”Just a fantastic accomplishment from our team, really helping our customer-owners expand, get more energy, and acquire more reliable, affordable assets,” Fernandez said…
