FTSE steady as Nvidia earnings leads US lower, banks recover

The FTSE 100 moved a touch higher after a lacklustre session on Wall Street, which saw technology stocks drop on the back of Nvidia’s quarterly update.

Shares in Nvidia fell 7% despite third-quarter earnings of $32.5bn (£24.64bn) coming in ahead of estimates and the US chip giant’s announcement of a $50bn share buyback programme. 

Matt Britzman, analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said: ‘Investors tend to overstate the importance of one set of quarterly results in the grand scheme of a structural shift like we’re seeing with AI.
