Cryptocurrency Platforms Sued for User Data Collection, Sales

Two cryptocurrency trading applications violated Illinois’ biometric information privacy law by collecting, storing, and sharing their users’ data without consent, according to a pair of proposed class actions.

China-based imToken Pte. Ltd. and Marella LLC registered in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, which both operate cryptocurrency exchange platforms, failed to notify users of the companies’ data collection practices, including the purpose for the collection or for how long data would be stored, according to the separate and unrelated complaints filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Northern District Court of Illinois.
