Google, BlackRock partner for major solar energy project in Taiwan | Taiwan News

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Google and the multinational investment company BlackRock are partnering to fund the construction of a massive solar energy pipeline in Taiwan through the solar power company New Green Power.

According to the press release, the project is intended to help Taiwan meet its energy transition goals for the 21st century while also ensuring adequate power for Google’s cloud servers and data centers. The solar power project is expected to supply approximately 1 gigawatt worth of electricity per year.

Google stated in its press release that it expects to procure “up to 300 megawatts of solar energy from this pipeline through power purchase agreements (PPAs) and the associated energy attribute certificates (Taiwan Renewable Energy Certificates, or T-RECs) to help meet electricity demand from our data center campus, cloud region, and office operations in Taiwan.”
