Digital De-aging, Charging Power Banks Recalled

Date:

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of roughly 132,000 Baseus Magnetic wireless charging power banks for safety-related concerns.

At issue; the lithium-ion batteries could overheat and pose a potential fire hazard, according to the commission. It’s already happened with Baseus reporting 171-instances of overheating including 132 bulging or swelling batteries. 39 fires were also reported, which caused injuries and roughly $20,000 in damage.

The power banks were sold online at Amazon.com, AliExpress.com and Baseus.com from April 2022 through April 2024 for between $18 and $55.

The commission said owners of the recalled batteries should dispose of them immediately and follow local and state ordinances. Baseus and Amazon, where these chargers were available, are directly notifying all known purchasers.
