Pune Porsche case: Fadnavis defends police action

Mumbai: Defending the Pune police‘s action in the Porsche hit and run case, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis told the media Tuesday that a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was registered immediately by the city police. He also added that the police did not act in any kind of pressure or that any VIP treatment was doled out to the juvenile accused during his detention.

A 17-and-a-half-year-old boy, son of a prominent city developer, mowed down a couple after his speeding Porsche car rammed into their motorcycle in the Yerwada area of Pune in the early hours of Sunday. The incident sparked outrage criticising the Pune police for handling the incident with ‘kid gloves’ after the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) granted bail in a record 15 hours and asked the accused to write a “300-word essay” on the topic of road accidents.
