US passes bill aimed at nuclear energy expansion to rival China

The Democrats and Republicans, known for their disagreements, have come together on a major energy issue – nuclear power. 

The ADVANCE Act, a bill meant to jumpstart America’s nuclear energy sector, was passed with an “overwhelming” majority by the United States Senate. The ADVANCE Act stands for Accelerating the Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy. 

This is a big deal because the U.S. needs more clean energy sources to meet growing power demand and fight climate change. 

Nuclear power plants produce zero-carbon emissions, making them a powerful alternative in this climate fight. 

“In a major victory for our climate and American energy security, the U.S. Senate has passed the ADVANCE Act with overwhelming, bipartisan support,” said Democratic Sen. Tom Carper, the chair of the Senate’s Environment and Public Works Committee, in a statement.
