New solar energy center coming to Kentucky

HENDERSON CO., Ky. (WFIE) – Officials with NextEra Energy and Nucor broke ground Wednesday on what will be the next solar energy center in Kentucky.

Project leaders say Nucor will purchase the power the center creates to help with their sustainability goals. They say Nucor will also provide steel to build the center.

Once construction is complete, NextEra Executive Director of Development Lina Jensen says it’ll have multiple benefits for the community.

Jensen says it’ll bring clean energy to the grid, the county will see tax benefits and will add 250 construction jobs to the area. She says they picked a great spot to put the center too.

“When we site projects, we look for transmission capability and capacity and landowners interested in the project,” said Jensen. “This project has both of those things.”

Project officials say construction will take about 18 months and then they’ll start generating power to the grid and hope…
