The Fairbanks North Star Borough revised its definition of communication and utility site easement requirements in its subdivision code following the unanimous Assembly approval of an ordinance on Thursday night.
Ordinance No. 2024-06, sponsored by Borough Mayor Bryce Ward, provides updates in line with modern requirements for major renewable energy projects.
Borough platting officer George Stefan said communication and utility sites under the borough code were defined as parcels reserved by an agency or utility company for an electrical substation, a water or sewer lift station, water treatment facility or a telecommunications facility or cell tower.
“It can either be permitted on an existing lot or created through a subdivision process,” Stefan said.
