Date:

A partnership between the city of Dearborn and DTE Energy will provide electricity to all city buildings from wind and solar energy sources to reduce pollution emissions by 2026.

The project makes Dearborn the largest municipality in the state to enroll in MIGreenPower, DTE Energy’s voluntary renewable energy program, the city said in news release. Participation is not expected to carry additional costs for taxpayer, Dearborn officials claimed.

The 20-year plan expects to remove more than 12,000 metric tons of emissions from carbon dioxide, or greenhouse gas, into the air, the equivalent of nearly 2,700 gasoline-powered passenger cars annually, according to the release. Nearly 1,500 residents and businesses reportedly are using MIGreenPower to reduce their environmental footprint.
